Nursing the Newborn Baby
The first six months of a baby's life offers unique opportunities for building lasting bonds between the mother and her child. And that bond takes its roots from nursing the child.
If you are the mother, it is always best for both of you to nourish your baby with your own breast milk. Mother's milk has no substitute for the baby's complete nutrition. Put yourselves in a position where your arms or back will not get sore, such as by supporting the back of your baby's head with your hand while keeping some soft clothing or pillow handy. Either you tilt your body in a reclining position with sufficient body support or sit erect on a couch, bed or chair. When your baby suckles, watch the sensation around your breast. Your baby's lips should fully cover the areola and your nipple should be pressed deep between the baby's tongue and the upper inside portion of the baby's mouth.
In any event the purpose is to make yourselves comfortable--something which moms always know best, given the insights she develops with practice and experience.
On top of all the nutritional benefits the baby can possibly enjoy, breastfeeding gets the mother and child ever closer to each other. The bonding it brings will endure for the rest of their lives.

Completely Doable Baby List
So you're going to have a baby...
Congratulations!! Once you get through the "Whoa, I'm going to be a mom / dad" to "Can I do this?" to "Okay! I'm ready!" your next thought should be "What do I need?" Some will give you horrifying lists that will cause your head to spin. As a mother of 2 young children I have figured out that you don't need as much as the lists say, and you certainly don't need it all at once. I have broken my list down into age categories: 0-3mos (thing you should have on hand when baby comes home), 3-6mos, and 6-12mos. A word of advice: your baby doesn't care if the onsie she's wearing cost $5 or $50, so save yourself some money and put it towards the important stuff, like college tuition!
0-3 Months

- 10 Receiving blankets - for swaddling baby or cleaning off spit up
- 5-10 onsies - good for under layer in winter, or only layer on hot days

Baby room Ideas that you must have
1. Sleep sack. Deveau swears by daughter Kate's Grobag sleep sack. She can't kick it off in the middle of the night and it prevents her from leveraging her legs to climb out of the crib. Since blankets aren't recommended for newborns, sleep sacks provide warmth, safety and security.

3. L-shaped nursing pillow. A proper pillow with a high fill will lift baby up to the right height for comfortable nursing or bottle feeding. Deveau suggests buying one halfway through the pregnancy to use as a body pillow at night.
