As a new parent (or parent-to-be), you may be feeling a little overwhelmed about all of the items you need to purchase. One of the most expensive pieces are baby prams. Build and Structure - Weight, size and the wheels are all very important factors. How big and accessible is your boot? You will obviously need to be able to lift the pram into your boot easily, especially after giving birth! Do you want 3 or 4 wheels? Jogger prams are very popular with people who enjoy exercising with baby, while plenty of 4 wheelers have off road wheels for introducing baby to the great outdoors. If you will only be "driving" your baby stroller on a footpath or in a shopping centre on a smooth surface, then small wheels will be fine. Some people find large wheels cumbersome and unnecessary. Others have their pram with off road wheels plus a smaller baby stroller for quick trips to the shops.

This sling is perfect! I wish I'd had it with my first child! I was torn between this sling and Hotslings, but after reading reviews and not wanting to deal with picking a sling size, I went with Balaboa. The strap is adjustable to make it as high or low as you want it to be. My son has loved it since he was a week old (22 inches, 8 pounds) and still loves it at 5 weeks. It is very comfortable to walk around in and I use it nearly everyday... to vacuum, do laundry, etc. We live in Japan, which is not stroller friendly, so this really has been a life saver. I've worn it nearly all day to the aquarium, park, grocery store, even to get my eyebrows waxed! Everyone I see raves about how cute and functional it is. Like the other review said, I've never worried about him falling out (and that's with me chasing after my toddler). We have a Baby Bjorn, which I used with my older son, but he never looked that comfortable in it.

If you're having a baby, or know someone who is, this is the perfect purchase. Babies want to be held, but moms need their hands free! Lugging around a car seat or dealing with a big stroller isn't always practical or convenient. The price is a deal, too!

Babies today are born into a world where they will be bombarded with chemicals which they are ill equipped to deal with. In fact, the process starts before birth, with the mother's diet likely to be laced with a chemical concoction the human immune system is not fully designed to handle. Add to that the polluted air she breathes and water she drinks, and the deadly drugs she may be taking, that innocent baby is brought into a world that is immediately hostile to their health. However, there is much a parent can do to minimize the effect of that chemical invasion, and one of those is to use organic baby care wherever possible.

What is Organic Baby Care?

There is no globally accepted definition of organic, although some countries have tried to establish enforceable standards. For simplicity, let us say that organic products should not have been grown or developed with the use of pesticides, herbicides, or artificial fertilizers, and have not been genetically modified in any way.

Organic baby care, then, is to bring up a baby using as many organically grown products as possible. Most parents would want to extend that to include as many eco-friendly products as well. So, what sort of "organic" products can play a part in your baby's development.

Organic Baby Food

Ideally, feeding your baby organic foods should start while she is still in the womb. What the baby's mother eats and drinks, breathes and has injected into her affect the quality of the baby's sustenance before birth, and in the breast milk after birth. A mother who lives on organic food as far as possible will get her baby off to a good start.

Once the baby comes off breast milk to solids, it is important to keep as much control over her food as possible. It is very easy to avoid processed and canned food, whose origins you know little about, and may contain contaminants not only in the food itself but the lining of the can. Wherever possible use organic foods and chemical free juices and water in order to give the baby a good start in life so far as nourishment goes. If possible, follow the advice of a holistically trained professional nutritionist to find the right balance of food.

Organic Bedding & Clothing

Many parents these days seek out what they call organic bedding. It may be very difficult to find, but baby bedding does exist that has been made from natural fibers that have been organically grown. However, do look for some genuine indication that the cotton or wool is organic. An item that is just labeled 100% cotton, without any organic certification, is unlikely to be organic but chemically laden. The same applies to baby clothes.

Organic Baby Accessories

There are many baby accessories that can be eco-friendly or even organic. Organic baby wipes and diapers are now quite easily available, and they are items that parents need every day for their baby. Using organic bio-degradable diapers can be a great benefit to the environment compared to using the old style disposables. Many children's toys are made of natural materials rather than plastics, and even organic teethers, made from 100% cotton, can be found if you search hard enough.

While it may not be possible in this day and age to bring up a completely organic baby, you do at least have the chance to minimize the chemical intake of your children. With trends as they are, more products will be developed as time passes, making your task that much easier.

Many of us have only very limited experience in being with babies until we have one of our own. Consequently, when our baby gets upset and starts crying, we get very frustrated when we can't calm him or her down. Often parents begin to doubt their ability to care for a child when the baby fusses a lot of the time. Here are some techniques for placating a fussy baby.

First, check the obvious. See if your baby has a physical need. Maybe he or she has a wet or dirty diaper. See if the baby is hungry. If you are breastfeeding, offering the breast can be your number one baby-comforting strategy. Babies are comforted by sucking even when they are not interested in eating, which is the reason why many of them love to take pacifiers. Other things may make your baby uncomfortable, such as being too hot or too cold, or simply being in an awkward position.

Supposing you've checked all the above and your baby is still upset. In this case, it might be helpful to know a little bit about what kind of environment a baby likes, and then try to reproduce that environment. New babies like to be reminded of being in the womb, but you can't really put them back in there, so you need to think of other ways to imitate their first home. What was it like in the womb? It was cramped and dark, and baby could hear mom's heartbeat. Also, baby got bounced gently up and down all day as mom was walking around. There are a few ways to recreate this environment. Some babies like to be swaddled, since the tight wrapping reminds them of the womb. It also stops them from startling themselves when they move their arms and legs. Humming softly or "shushing" is a universal mothering behavior that mimics the sounds of the womb. And swaying or bouncing gently also calms babies. Many babies love to be wrapped in a baby carrier against mom's chest and taken for a walk. If you are too tired to be up and about, you can relax in a rocking chair. Many babies love the gentle hum and vibrations of a car ride.

It's important to remember that no two babies have the same temperament. You could be the best parent in the world and still have a colicky baby who fusses a lot. What's important is that you keep trying different techniques to comfort your baby. As you get to know him or her better, you will learn what works and what doesn't. And your baby will learn that you are a responsive parent who is attentive to his or her needs.

Baby carriers have been used by mothers (and fathers too) all over the world. There are many styles and variations to choose, and finding the right one for you and your baby can be a daunting task when you are already sleep deprived. Baby slings are the most common type of carrier where you wear your baby close to you. They are soft in the sense they have no frame, and made of fabrics which can mold to you and your baby. Some come with padding and some do not. These carriers are commonly called ring slings because of the rings used to adjust the fabric used for carrying and the amount left as the "tail". The longer the tail, the higher the baby will be on you. This allows you and your baby to figure out the best position for each of you. Additionally, the tail of a baby ring sling can be a modesty cover for when you are nursing.

Baby slings are quite convenient carriers once you learn how to make the adjustments. Both mom and dad can frequently use the same baby sling since one ring sling can adjust to different sized caregivers.

The baby pouch also allows your baby to be close to you. The pouch is similar to the baby sling in that it too does not have any internal framing, just a piece of fabric which is folded into a pouch where baby can snuggle into the wearer. The ends of the fabric are sewn together so there is no adjusting necessary. The pouch is the easiest carrier to use, but some can be anxious since there are no adjustments to be made. Again, like the sling, the pouch goes over one shoulder so you are holding the baby's weight on one side of you.

The Mei Tai carrier is an Asian-inspired carrier which again has no structured framework. Baby's weight is evenly distributed on the wearer since this style carrier has straps which fit over both shoulders. Because of the even weight distribution the Mei Tai style is a wonderful carrier for larger babies. You can even wear your toddler with this style carrier. It can also be worn on your back once your baby is able to hold up her head.

The wrap style carrier is one of the most versatile carriers you can use. It can be used in many configurations including a front carry, hip carry, back carry, and any way you can create. The wrap is a long piece of breathable fabric with no structured frame which evenly distributes baby's weight on the wearer's body. To use your wrap quickly you can pre-tie it. Most users find this style has the longest learning curve since you have to find the carry style which best meets your needs as well as learn how to actually perform the tie itself.

There are a variety of framed and unframed backpacks and front carriers which can be ideal for your outdoor activities. No matter which style you choose, you can be assured that you and your baby will be happy.

All babies and infants have gas; some babies have more gas then others. It is normal but it becomes a problem if your baby is bothered by it and is in a lot of pain. Of course you want your baby to be happy and content.

Why Can Baby Gas Cause Pain?

Babies are born with a very immature gut. Most experts agree that for the first thirteen weeks, the newborn digestive system is literally just learning to function. Newborns also lack the benevolent bacterial flora (probiotics) that develop over time to aid digestion. Gas can create gas pockets that get trapped in the upper and lower intestines. The gas acts like a cork and built-up pressure causes painful bloating and swelling of the stomach.

What can you do to help ease your baby`s gas pain?

Burping -

Make sure you burp your baby frequently while feeding; this will reduce the amount of air in your baby`s stomach. Burping is good but it will probably not help your baby totally get rid of the gas. There is gas created in the intestines during your baby`s normal digestion. The burping will not get rid of this gas.

Different ways of holding your baby -

Hold your baby with one hand, with his back against your stomach. With your free hand hold your baby`s one leg up so his/her knee is against his/her stomach. This will help your baby.
The football hold - hold your baby with face down resting her/his chin in your hand, on your forearm with baby`s legs straddling your elbow. Gentle pressure placed on your baby`s stomach can help baby`s gas.

Massage - Rub from ribcage to diaper one hand after the other, 15 times. Then bend baby`s legs to her/his stomach, count to 15. Then rub your baby`s stomach in a clockwise motion, 15 times. Bend baby`s legs to her/his stomach, count to 15. You can repeat this up to 3 times a day.

Bicycle move - Lay your baby on her/his back and move her/his legs like a bicycle. Make sure your baby lays on something soft and comfy.

Over-stimulation can sometimes cause baby gas. Do not over-stimulate your baby, it is ok to say no to visitors (even if it is hard). Sometimes some quiet and peace is all your baby need to decrease the degree of gassiness and fussiness.
